Overview
A marine or river current energy demonstration package using a qualified turbine system. It converts moving water into electricity without assuming that every river or coastal site is viable. A tidal pilot and an inland river pilot need separate approvals, environmental assessments and installation methods.
Product capabilities
- Turbine rotor and nacelle
- generator
- support frame or mooring
- subsea cables
- power electronics
- shore switchgear
Feedstock and input
Measured currents and bathymetry at a permitted water site.
Core components
- Turbine rotor and nacelle
- generator
- support frame or mooring
- subsea cables
- power electronics
- shore switchgear
- metering
- corrosion protection
- marine instrumentation
- installation and retrieval equipment
Process
Measure resource; obtain approvals; deploy and connect; generate; monitor ecology and retrieve for maintenance.
Design basis
Evaluate flow distribution, turbulence, debris, navigation, aquatic ecology, corrosion and installation access.
IoT measurements
Current resource, turbine output, subsea condition and environmental observations from the permitted pilot.
IoT architecture
Local PLC/HMI, buffered historian and secure gateway; remote alarms and reports. Cloud loss does not stop local control. See common architecture and acceptance tests.
Future capability
Correlate flow and electrical output and detect deviations for reviewed maintenance decisions.
Typical applications
U.S. tidal and river demonstration sites; selected global coastal or remote sites with recoverable resource.
Pilot validation
Demonstrate monitored pilot output, environmental conditions, retrieval method and electrical safety before scaling.
Problem and deployment scope
Advanced resources and plant intelligence
How it works
- Turbine rotor and nacelle
- generator
- support frame or mooring
- subsea cables
- power electronics
- shore switchgear
Architecture
Confirm data sources, field interfaces and operating requirements during discovery. Integration compatibility is reviewed for each deployment.
Integrations
Interface availability and supported protocols require product-specific confirmation.
Deployment
Scope, installation, security, acceptance criteria and training are agreed with the project team.
Use cases
U.S. tidal and river demonstration sites; selected global coastal or remote sites with recoverable resource.
